SOS Children’s Villages Lesotho is a child focus organization and an affiliate of SOS Children Villages International. It is non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational, and non-racial organization. Its overall mission is to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and participate in the development of their communities. To realize the mission of the organization, SOS CV Lesotho has established four (4) locations and/or duty stations, the National Coordinating Office, Maseru Programme Location, Quthing Programme Location and the Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Training (YEET) project located in Leribe.

The main goal of the YEET project is to empower young people by capacitating them with entrepreneurship skills to enhance their independence as future leaders.

Responsible: School Principal

• Provide Children with a High Standard of Education
• 1.1 Teach the class as assigned by the School Principal. The School Teacher is responsible for the effective instruction, training, and evaluation of the pupils.
• 1.2 Prepare teaching plans and outlines, as required by the School Principal. Conduct the class in accordance with the school timetable.
• 1.3 Ensure that the class (or other educational facilities) is ready for the reception of pupils at least ten minutes before the commencement of classes. Greet the children as they arrive.
• 1.4 Make the most of available educational resources. Keep in contact with local libraries with a view to maintaining a regular supply of books and other educational resources that will be of interest to the children.
• 1.5 Involve pupils in the operations of the school. Children should become involved in cleaning classrooms, sweeping the courtyard, watering flower beds, etc.
• Ensure the Education Development of SOS Children
• 2.1 Be aware of SOS Children and take an active interest in their development.
• 2.2 If extra assistance is necessary for the SOS Children, a programme should be developed in co-operation with the School Principal, Village Father, and SOS Mother.
• 2.3 Children who have learning disabilities or behavioural problems must be quickly identified so that an appropriate support programme can be developed for each child. Remedial support should be provided where necessary.
• Be the Leader of the Class
• 3.1 Provide a positive example to the children at all times, promoting respect for discipline, morality, and humanity.
• 3.2 Be accountable for the learning of the children within the class. Be flexible and able to cope with any challenges, crises, and dilemmas as they arise.
• 3.3 Maintain full discipline within the class. It should be noted that corporal punishment or verbal abuse are not acceptable means of discipline. Ensure that children attend classes neatly dressed, in accordance with school regulations.
• 3.4 Supervise the children at all times to ensure that the risk of accidents is minimised. Take prompt action in the event of an accident.
• Create a Stimulating Learning Environment
• 4.1 Create a relaxed, non-threatening atmosphere in the class where the children can see learning as a worthwhile activity that is interesting and enjoyable. Constantly give strong signals to the children about your own view of learning so that they may come to value it in the same way.
• 4.2 Adopt a varied approach to teaching, using interesting and exciting teaching methods.
• 4.3 Encourage open expression among the children.
• 4.4 Display children’s work attractively within the class.
• 4.5 Ensure that the classroom is kept neat and tidy, as this is an essential part of creating an inviting atmosphere.
