About the Role
Our client, a respected secondary school in Klerksdorp, is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to serve as the Head of Department for English Language and Literature. This role involves leading a team of passionate English educators, shaping the curriculum, and fostering a strong culture of literacy and critical thinking among students. You will be responsible for curriculum development, staff mentorship, and ensuring academic excellence in all aspects of the English curriculum.
The ideal candidate possesses exceptional leadership qualities, a deep passion for literature and language, and a commitment to nurturing students' communication and analytical skills in the North West province.
- Lead, manage, and inspire the English Language and Literature department staff, fostering a collaborative and high-achieving environment.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing review of the English curriculum across all relevant grades.
- Ensure the delivery of engaging and effective English language and literature instruction, promoting critical analysis and advanced literacy skills.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations for department staff and provide professional development opportunities.
- Manage departmental resources, including library materials and technological tools, to support teaching and learning.
- Organize and promote literary events, competitions, and excursions to enhance student engagement with the subject.
- A Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, or a related field, along with a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE).
- A minimum of 8 years of teaching experience in English, with at least 4 years in a leadership or Head of Department role.
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum design and pedagogical strategies for English language and literature at the secondary level.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- A profound understanding of literary analysis, critical theory, and effective language acquisition techniques.
- Experience in developing and implementing assessment strategies to measure student literacy and analytical proficiency in Klerksdorp.
