PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of the position is to contribute to the academic mission of the School through the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, active engagement in research and scholarly activities, and meaningful academic and professional engagement. The incumbent will contribute to the development and implementation of relevant undergraduate and/or postgraduate modules, provide academic support and mentorship to students, participate in curriculum development and quality assurance, and contribute to the research outputs and research profile of the School.

The incumbent will also contribute to the School, Faculty and University through appropriate academic administration, community engagement and professional activities, in accordance with the requirements of the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level.

• Proven research in Labour Relations Management or Human Resource Management.

• A Master’s degree in Labour Relations Management (NQF level
  9).
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience as lecturer, development of teaching content, examiner/ moderator.
• A minimum of 1–2 years of experience in evidence-based postgraduate supervision.

• A PhD in Labour Relations Management (NQF level 10).
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as lecturer, development of teaching content, examiner/ moderator.
• Applicants should have at least 1 Master’s student to completion.

• Professional membership with the South African Board of People Practices (SABPP) and/or the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW).
• A minimum of 1 – 2 years’ proven experience as Labour Relations Practitioner.
• Drafted own PhD proposal (Lecturer level).

• Plan and facilitate a range of learning activities, i.e., tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, field excursions, etc., to support student engagement and achievement.
• Initiation and development of subject material.
• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate classes.
• Effective teaching methods and strategies, such as explaining concepts clearly, structuring lessons well, checking for understanding, and adapting your approach to help students learn.
• Provide strong mentoring to students.
• Engage in scholarly and subject-related work.
• Actively participate in discipline-related teaching and learning conferences, workshops, and excellence award programmes to stay current and contribute to the broader academic community.
• Monitor and report on student success rates per module, taking appropriate action to support student throughput.
• Teaching modules with the Labour Relations Management (LARM) / Human Resource Management (HRMA) programme on pre-graduate and postgraduate level.

• Develop and deliver lectures and seminars.
• Develop and initiate course material to ensure content is current, relevant, and academically rigorous.
• Supervise postgraduate students engaged in coursework and research programmes.
• Consultation with students.

• Actively participate in research activities relevant to the discipline, contributing to the broader knowledge base of the School.
• Engage with the research or creative practice component of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supporting students in developing research skills and academic inquiry.
