Job OverviewThe Solar Project Development Manager will lead the end‑to‑end development of utility‑scale solar projects from site identification through to commercial operation. Reporting to the Head of Renewable Energy, the role involves strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, financial modeling, regulatory compliance, and coordination with engineering, procurement, and construction teams. The successful candidate will be instrumental in expanding Sun Power's solar portfolio in South Africa, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

- Identify and evaluate potential solar project sites across South Africa, focusing on land availability, grid connectivity, and resource potential.
- Conduct feasibility studies, including technical, financial, and environmental assessments.
- Develop detailed project proposals, financial models, and investment memoranda for internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead negotiations with landowners, utilities, government agencies, and financing partners.
- Secure necessary permits, licences, and approvals in compliance with national and provincial regulations.
- Coordinate cross‑functional teams including engineering, procurement, legal, and construction to ensure seamless project execution.
- Monitor project milestones, budgets, and risk registers, providing regular updates to senior management.
- Drive community engagement initiatives to foster positive relationships with local stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of market trends, policy changes, and technological advancements in solar energy.
- Strong analytical and financial modelling abilities.
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- In‑depth knowledge of South African renewable energy regulations and grid connection processes.
- Proven project management experience in utility‑scale solar or comparable renewable projects.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex timelines.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with fluency in English; additional South African languages are a plus.
