Hydro Power Plant Operator

Our client is looking for a vigilant and skilled Hydro Power Plant Operator to join their operational team in Klerksdorp . This role is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, control, and maintenance of our hydroelectric power generation facilities, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and environmental compliance. You will play a crucial part in the reliable supply of electricity, working with sophisticated control systems and equipment to manage water flow and turbine operations.

• Operate and monitor hydroelectric turbines, generators, and associated equipment using control systems.
• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on plant machinery.
• Respond to alarms and system upsets, taking appropriate corrective actions to ensure safety and operational continuity.
• Maintain accurate operational logs, records, and reports on plant performance and incidents.
• Ensure adherence to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams on troubleshooting and equipment upgrades.

• Technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related trade.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience operating or maintaining industrial power generation equipment, preferably hydro.
• Experience with SCADA systems and industrial control platforms.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical principles related to power generation.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and P&IDs.
• Must be able to work rotating shifts and be available for emergency call-outs.
