Power Plant Operator

Our client, a significant contributor to the South African energy landscape , is seeking a dedicated and alert Power Plant Operator to join their facility in Vereeniging . In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of power generation equipment, monitoring plant performance, and responding to operational demands. Your vigilance and adherence to procedures are crucial for maintaining continuous power supply and ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.

This position is ideal for an individual with a strong understanding of power plant operations and a commitment to operational excellence in a demanding industrial setting.

• Operate and control power generation equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, and associated auxiliary systems.
• Monitor plant parameters and system performance using control room instrumentation and distributed control systems (DCS).
• Respond promptly and effectively to alarms, deviations, and abnormal operating conditions to maintain safe and stable plant operation.
• Perform routine checks, log operational data, and report any equipment malfunctions or operational issues to supervisory staff.
• Implement operational procedures and safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
• Participate in plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency response procedures as required.

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification; a relevant technical certificate or trade qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Power Plant Operator or in a similar operational role within the energy industry.
• Familiarity with the operation of thermal power plants or similar industrial facilities.
• Ability to read and interpret plant schematics and operational manuals.
• Strong understanding of safety principles and emergency procedures in an industrial environment.
• Excellent situational awareness, decision-making skills, and the ability to work rotating shifts in Vereeniging.
