Instrumentation Technician

SUMMARY: An opportunity exists for a skilled Instrumentation Technician to join the Automation Department and support the reliable performance of a high-demand manufacturing environment.

POSITION INFO:

Reporting to the Automation Engineer, this role safeguards plant availability through precise maintenance, rapid fault identification, and disciplined adherence to instrumentation standards.

You will work across advanced automation systems, supporting PLCs, HMIs, SCADA platforms, analyzers, drives, weighing systems, and communication networks. Success requires strong technical acumen, the ability to interpret and update drawings, and the discipline to maintain software integrity, calibration accuracy, and SAP-driven maintenance processes. The role further demands a safety-first mindset, structured documentation practices, and the capacity to guide assistants and learners.

Requirements

• Matric plus a recognised Instrumentation Technical Qualification
• S4/N6 with ±3 years’ experience in heavy industry or process environments
• PLC/HMI programming & fault-finding on PCS7, ABB 800xA and Siemens (S7-300/1200/1500)
• SCADA (WinCC), gas/emissions analyser maintenance, weighing systems, and VSD commissioning (SEW, WEG, Siemens, ABB)
• Strong understanding of ASI, Profibus, Ethernet and industrial communication networks
• SAP experience is advantageous
