An established engineering-led organisation operating in the water and wastewater treatment sector is seeking a Lead Mechanical or Civil Design Engineer to head up their mechanical design function and align engineering with business and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment projects.
- Review, approve, and ensure accuracy of drawings, specifications, and technical calculations.
- Ensure designs are cost-effective, energy-efficient, sustainable, and fit for purpose.
- Provide technical leadership across project phases, from planning and procurement through construction and commissioning.
- Coordinate resources and align multidisciplinary teams to meet project timelines and deliverables
- Ensure all engineering work complies with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards.
- Collaborate closely with Production and Manufacturing to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
- Lead, coach, and manage the mechanical design team, providing guidance on complex design challenges.
- Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and best-practice design standards to reduce risk and improve outcomes.
- Manage assigned projects, including cost, schedule, quality, subcontractors, and overall delivery performance
- A Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Professional registration advantageous)
- Proven experience in mechanical design leadership, preferably in water or wastewater treatment
- Strong technical background in piping systems, pump stations, and mechanical plant design
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Solid project management capability, including cost and schedule control
- Strong working knowledge of EHS, quality systems, and compliance standards
- Proficiency in relevant design and project tools (CAD platforms and Microsoft Project)
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
