Responsibilities
  • Execute predictive maintenance practices to improve asset availability and plant utilisation.
  • Identify, plan, and lead root cause analyses and technical investigations related to products, processes, technology, and equipment, ensuring proper documentation and sign-off.
  • Improve asset reliability and performance through structured problem-solving methods such as 5-Why and Ishikawa analyses.
  • Monitor and enhance plant performance through reliability modelling and production loss management.
  • Assess, review, and implement failure management strategies, supported by accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Liaise with internal and external suppliers and service providers to ensure optimal technical performance and service delivery.
  • Monitor and manage service level agreements (SLAs) for critical equipment, ensuring corrective actions are tracked and completed.
  • Support process and equipment monitoring, contribute to financial studies, initiate and participate in HAZOP studies, and perform risk analyses to maximise equipment efficiency.
  • Compile technical reports and motivations for equipment modifications to eliminate recurring failures.
  • Design and implement equipment and tooling improvements through the Management of Change (MOC) and Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) processes.
  • Generate and implement innovative process improvement ideas through ongoing technical research, including participation in modification and CAPEX projects.
  • Participate in technical meetings and work groups, providing inputs and preparing, reviewing, and compiling technical documentation.
  • Prepare capital expenditure motivations and obtain approvals for project execution.
  • Develop technical specifications for quotations and ensure cost-effective, goal-directed designs in collaboration with consulting engineers and suppliers.
  • Act as the maintenance department representative on process-related projects.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including the OHS Act and Explosives Act, and implement ISO, NOSA, and RDM policies and procedures to maintain SHE, quality, and engineering standards.
  • Mentor in-service students and support their technical development through project-based work.
  • Establish and maintain effective interfaces between suppliers, operations, supply chain, and clients to support process improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, maintenance staff, supervisors, and plant personnel to resolve operational issues.
  • Provide technical coaching and innovative guidance to plant personnel, supporting skills transfer and identifying training needs.
  • Monitor plant utility efficiency through surveys and implement corrective actions.
  • Contribute to capital, maintenance, and operational budget planning and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage approved CAPEX funds and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Adheres and implements Rheinmetall Denel Munitions Policies and Procedures and ensures compliance to ISO Standards with respect to SHE/Quality/Environmental/Energy.
What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level
    7) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Mechanical/Plant/Reliability Engineer.
  • Experience in Plant Asset Management would be advantageous.
  • Experience in Technical Drawings from engineering information to Completion is preferred.
  • Analytical thinker with good reasoning and problem-solving skills on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Experience in Plant asset management or reliability-centred maintenance practices would be advantageous.
  • Experience in conducting complex failure investigations and facilitating Root cause analysis would be advantageous.
  • Experience in Project management would be advantageous.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in the maintenance of machinery and equipment is essential.
  • Decisive, self-motivated, and disciplined, with a proactive and investigative approach, demonstrating strong initiative and perseverance.
  • Knowledge of SHE/OHS/Quality Systems advantageous.
