Location: Mokopane
IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world‑class palladium‑rhodium‑nickel‑copper‑gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state‑of‑the‑art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this "mine of the future". Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.
Suitablecandidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills
- A 4‑year BSc/B.Tech/B.Eng. Degree in Extraction Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering or NQF7 is essential.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
- Valid South African Driving License.
- Based in Mokopane or willing to relocate.
- Min 2+ years post qualification with proven concentrator plant experience as an intern metallurgist.
- Basic knowledge of plant control room operations.
- Knowledge of metal accounting principles, practices and implementation (highly advantageous).
- Basic knowledge and experience of mass and metal balancing, metal control for PGM and base metals (highly advantageous).
- Experience in process control, process information databases and metallurgical optimisation systems (advantageous).
- Basic understanding of PGM and base metal analytical methods.
- Proficient in plant software applications, MS Excel and PowerPoint.
- Conduct or supervise routine plant sampling.
- Track recovery, throughput, grind size, density, reagent consumption, and concentrate grade.
- Assist in identifying process bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
- Participate in metallurgical test work and plant trials.
- Compile daily, weekly, and monthly metallurgical reports.
- Investigate deviations in recovery or grade performance.
- Assist senior metallurgists with process optimisation initiatives.
- Monitor performance of the water treatment plant.
- Manage process monitoring equipment, calibrations and certifications.
- Validate data from smart sensors to ensure continuous uptime and functionality.
- Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes.
Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) from local communities surrounding Ivanplats Platreef mine and Women. Applications are only open to South African citizens.
