Job Description
This role is based in Mokopane, Limpopo.
This role is at a Band 7 level reporting to the Chief Rock Engineer.
Responsibilities- Provide technical assistance to the Planning & Mining section by applying rock engineering principles and assessments in a dynamic stress regime.
- Generate solutions by analyzing information from various sources and integrating it to make the best decisions to enable delivery on safe production.
- Undertake regular underground visits to monitor compliance to standards and to delineate areas with possible strata control problems.
- Liaise with the Shift Supervisors and Mine Overseers to determine their individual needs according to their operational plans or problems encountered.
- Input relevant data into plans and layouts.
- Monitor underground conditions and report to the Chief / Shaft Rock Engineer.
- Guide standard management for section safety and performance.
- Monitor legal conformance to procedures and standards in terms of rock engineering responsibilities, e.g. Codes of Practice, during pit and underground visits.
- Participate in the investigation of relevant rock engineering related incidents and accidents.
- Support the Chief / Shaft Rock Engineer with rock engineering information to compile reports.
- Do regular RMR’s during pit and underground visits to build up a database.
- Assist the Chief / Shaft Rock Engineer with the monthly risk assessments.
- Help review mining layouts.
- Give training to the operations personnel in strata control factors.
- Monitor and report stability of pit and underground workings.
- Assist with the testing of rock properties.
- BSc (Hons) Geology, BSc Science and /or Mathematics, BSc Mining Engineering or NHD Mining Engineering.
- Chamber of Mines Certificate in Rock Mechanics or working towards it (Theory completed).
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in Rock Mechanic Engineering.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in Geotechnical Modelling.
- Underground experience.
- Computer literacy for role.
- Numerical modelling with advanced 3D modelling programs.
- Seismicity Analysis.
- Incident investigations (FOG).
- Data interpretation.
- Support designs.
