The Geology Technician reports deviations from standard (geology or best cut related). Identifies unsafe working conditions and responds to abnormal environmental conditions.
Roles and Responsibilities- Gathering/Mapping of Geological and Stope Width (SW) and Grade Control information from the working production place as and when required by senior geological staff
- Recording the SW information and basic mapping of geological features where applicable
- Takes photographs via the use of digital cameras
- Inputs all information ideally directly into relevant systems (Microstation-Cads Mine and MRM)
- Gather all relevant information with respect to geology and resource management (white areas, sweepings, FOG etc)
- Cover hole drill core logging and plotting of the information on the 1:200 plans and the electronic plans
- Report Writing to production staff (scrutiny by qualified geologist)
- Check all safety measures and devices
- Identity and demarcate hazards
- Maintains proper levels of all geological equipment
- Requests for materials and equipment, i.e. coloured tapes, wooden stakes, masonite board, paint, mapping book and clutch pencils as required on time
- Ensures that required equipment are kept clean and available
- Ensures work areas are clean, tidy and safe
This role is at a C1 level and will be reporting to the Shaft Geologist.
Qualifications- Grade 12 with Maths and Science
- Two years’ Technical Assistant exposure in an open pit
- Competent in relevant standards and procedures/modules
- Basic computer literacy (Excel, Word, AutoCAD and Dispatch)
- Valid Code 08 driver’s licence
