Overview

This role focuses on designing, optimizing, and managing marine renewable energy systems to support South Africa’s transition to sustainable energy. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop scalable ocean energy solutions, conduct feasibility studies, and ensure compliance with environmental and technical standards. Candidates will contribute to pioneering projects that align with global climate action frameworks while fostering local economic growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and engineer marine renewable energy systems, including tidal, wave, and ocean current technologies.
  • Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for offshore energy projects.
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists to minimize ecological impacts of installations.
  • Oversee the integration of marine energy systems with existing power grids.
  • Lead technical documentation, including system specifications and maintenance protocols.
  • Monitor and analyze performance data to optimize energy output and system efficiency.
Required Skills
  • Proven expertise in marine or mechanical engineering with a focus on renewable energy systems.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating oceanographic data and energy generation potential.
  • Experience with CAD software and marine energy simulation tools (e.g., OpenFAST, WEC-Sim).
  • Knowledge of South African renewable energy regulations and permitting processes.
  • Project management capabilities for multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and technical reporting.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Renewable Energy Engineering preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in marine renewable energy systems design or implementation.

Salary
