Process Safety Engineer - Chemical Industry

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled and diligent Process Safety Engineer to join their operations in Klerksdorp . This critical role ensures the highest standards of safety are maintained across all chemical processes and facilities. You will be responsible for conducting risk assessments, developing safety procedures, and ensuring compliance with national and international safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of chemical hazards and robust experience in implementing comprehensive safety management systems within a challenging industrial environment.

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA studies.
• Develop and implement robust safety management systems and procedures.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety legislation and industry best practices.
• Provide expert advice and training on process safety to engineering and operations staff.
• Oversee the implementation of safety measures and monitor their effectiveness.

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related safety-focused discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience specifically in process safety engineering within the chemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards (e.g., OSHA, COMAH), and PHA methodologies.
• Experience with consequence modeling software (e.g., PHAST, SAFETI).
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex technical data related to safety.
