About the Role
Our client is seeking a diligent Safety and Environmental Chemical Engineer to ensure compliance and promote a culture of safety at their facility in Klerksdorp . This role is crucial for managing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) risks associated with chemical processes and operations. You will develop, implement, and monitor HSE policies and procedures, conduct risk assessments, and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements.
This position offers a significant opportunity to impact workplace safety and environmental stewardship within a key industrial operation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management systems
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA), and incident investigations to identify hazards and prevent accidents
- Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international environmental regulations regarding emissions, waste disposal, and chemical handling
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to all site personnel, promoting a strong safety culture
- Manage emergency response planning and preparedness for potential chemical spills or environmental incidents
- Oversee the safe storage, handling, and disposal of all hazardous materials used in operations
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Health and Safety
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in HSE roles within the chemical or manufacturing industry
- In-depth knowledge of occupational safety regulations (e.g., OHS Act) and environmental legislation
- Experience with risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques
- Certifications such as NEBOSH or CSP are highly advantageous
- Strong communication, leadership, and influencing skills to promote safety awareness
