About the Role
Our client is seeking an enthusiastic Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join their expanding team in Benoni . This role focuses on ensuring the stability and safety of underground mine structures and open-pit slopes. You will assist in conducting site investigations, analyzing soil and rock mechanics data, and contributing to the design of support systems and mitigation strategies. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands‑on experience in a challenging and vital aspect of mining operations in the Gauteng region, working under the guidance of experienced professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in conducting site investigations, including geological mapping and geotechnical drilling .
- Perform laboratory testing on soil and rock samples to determine their engineering properties.
- Analyze geotechnical data to assess the stability of mine excavations and slopes.
- Support the design and implementation of ground support systems and slope stabilization measures.
- Monitor geotechnical conditions during mining operations and report any anomalies.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation under the supervision of senior engineers.
- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
- Basic understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geological principles .
- Familiarity with geotechnical investigation techniques and laboratory testing methods.
- Ability to interpret basic geological and geotechnical data.
- Proficiency in standard office software; experience with geotechnical software is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, eager to learn and contribute.
