Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Process Development Scientist to play a leading role in optimizing and scaling manufacturing processes for novel chemical entities at their facility in Soweto . This role is crucial for ensuring efficient, robust, and cost-effective production from laboratory scale to pilot and commercial manufacturing. You will be responsible for designing and executing process development studies, troubleshooting manufacturing issues, and implementing process improvements.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in chemical engineering or process chemistry, with a proven ability to translate complex scientific concepts into practical, scalable solutions in a regulated environment.
- Lead process development studies for new chemical entities, focusing on safety, efficiency, and yield.
- Optimize reaction conditions, work-up procedures, and purification methods for large-scale manufacturing.
- Conduct process hazard analyses and implement appropriate safety measures.
- Develop and validate analytical methods to monitor process performance and product quality.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and quality assurance teams to ensure successful technology transfer and scale-up.
- MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in process development and scale-up in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
- Strong understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and mass transfer principles.
- Proficiency in process modeling, statistical analysis, and Design of Experiments (DoE).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
