About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Municipal Engineer to play a key role in managing and overseeing the public works and infrastructure services for the municipality of Soweto . This position involves strategic planning, project management, and technical oversight of essential services including water, sanitation, roads, and storm water systems. You will collaborate closely with municipal departments, external consultants, and contractors to ensure the efficient delivery and maintenance of infrastructure critical to the community.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of municipal engineering challenges, regulatory compliance, and project delivery within a public sector context in Gauteng . This is a vital role in shaping the urban environment and improving public services.
- Manage the planning, design, and implementation of municipal infrastructure projects, including water, sewer, roads, and storm drainage systems.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of existing municipal infrastructure, ensuring service delivery standards are met.
- Develop and manage municipal engineering budgets, tender processes, and contract administration.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, standards, and regulations pertaining to municipal infrastructure.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to municipal engineering staff and support personnel.
- Liaise with councillors, community representatives, and external stakeholders on infrastructure matters.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr.Tech.Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in municipal engineering or public works project management.
- Proven experience in managing diverse infrastructure projects, including water and sanitation systems.
- Strong knowledge of municipal planning processes, procurement, and contract management.
