About the Role
Our client is seeking an adept Process Engineer specializing in metallurgy for their operations near Vereeniging. This role is central to optimizing and troubleshooting the metallurgical processes involved in extracting valuable minerals. You will focus on improving recovery rates, enhancing process efficiency, reducing operational costs, and ensuring consistent product quality. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, or pyrometallurgy, and a proven ability to apply chemical engineering principles to solve complex problems within a mining and minerals processing environment.
You will work closely with plant operations, laboratory staff, and R&D teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Optimize metallurgical process parameters to maximize metal recovery and concentrate grade.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and implement solutions to improve plant performance.
- Conduct pilot plant trials and laboratory test work to evaluate new processes or reagents.
- Develop and maintain process models and mass/element balances.
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and recommendations for process improvements.
- Ensure process operations comply with safety and environmental regulations.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mineral processing or extractive metallurgy within the mining industry.
- Strong knowledge of flotation, leaching, smelting, or refining processes.
- Experience with process simulation software (e.g., METSIM, HSC Chemistry).
- Familiarity with analytical techniques and quality control in a metallurgical laboratory.
- Excellent problem-solving and data analysis skills.
