Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Mining & Energy

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer with a dual focus on both mining and energy projects in the Klerksdorp area. This crucial role involves providing expert geotechnical advice and solutions for a range of infrastructure developments, including mine stability, tailings management, and foundations for renewable energy installations. You will lead investigations, analyze data, and design solutions to ensure the safety, stability, and longevity of complex engineering projects.

• Plan and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil, rock, and groundwater data to assess ground conditions and identify potential hazards.
• Design and specify geotechnical solutions for mine slope stability, tailings dams, and foundations for energy infrastructure.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, specifications, and recommendations.
• Provide technical supervision and mentorship to junior geotechnical engineers.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, and construction teams to ensure effective implementation of designs.

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant exposure to both mining and energy sectors.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and groundwater hydrology.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for analysis and design (e.g., Plaxis, Geo Studio).
• Experience with mine design, tailings management, and renewable energy foundation design is essential.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
