Senior Mechanical Engineer - Process Design

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the chemical processing industry in Klerksdorp , is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead process design initiatives. This role is pivotal in developing and optimizing mechanical systems for chemical plants, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with rigorous industry standards. You will be instrumental in translating process requirements into robust mechanical engineering solutions.

• Lead the mechanical design and engineering of process equipment, including reactors, pumps, heat exchangers, and piping systems.
• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for new installations and modifications.
• Perform detailed mechanical calculations for equipment sizing, stress analysis, and material selection.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices (e.g., ASME, API).
• Provide technical support during the construction, commissioning, and operational phases of projects.
• Collaborate with process engineers, safety officers, and project managers to achieve project objectives.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in process design, particularly within the chemical, petrochemical, or pharmaceutical industries.
• Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer principles.
• Proficiency with relevant engineering software and CAD tools .
• Experience with pressure vessel design codes (e.g., ASME Section VIII) and piping design standards.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex process mechanical issues.
