Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

Our client is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to the safety and stability of their mining operations in Klerksdorp . This role is critical for assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and mitigating risks associated with slope stability and underground excavations. You will work closely with mine planning and production teams to ensure that all ground support measures are adequate and implemented correctly.

The position demands a thorough understanding of rock mechanics and soil mechanics as applied to the mining industry in the North West province.

• Conduct site investigations and laboratory testing to characterize rock and soil properties.
• Perform stability analyses for open pits, underground excavations, and tailings dams.
• Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems for various mining conditions.
• Monitor ground conditions and assess the effectiveness of support measures.
• Provide technical guidance on geotechnical aspects of mine design and construction.
• Investigate and report on geotechnical incidents, developing preventative strategies.

• Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant exposure to mining projects.
• Proficiency in geotechnical modeling software (e.g., FLAC, Rocscience suite).
• Strong knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and engineering geology.
• Experience with field instrumentation and monitoring techniques.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
