About the Role
Our client, a prominent engineering firm serving the mining sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer for projects in Nelspruit and surrounding areas. This role is crucial for ensuring the stability of mine infrastructure, tailings dams, and open-pit slopes. You will conduct detailed site investigations, perform complex analyses, and provide expert recommendations for safe and sustainable mining operations in Mpumalanga.
This hybrid role involves essential site visits and collaborative office work, balanced with remote flexibility.
- Conduct comprehensive geotechnical investigations for mine sites, including slope stability analysis for open pits and tailings facilities.
- Design foundations, earthworks, and retaining structures for mining infrastructure.
- Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for geological hazards.
- Oversee field testing, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation related to soil and rock mechanics.
- Provide expert advice on ground conditions, dewatering, and excavation support.
- Collaborate with mining engineers, geologists, and environmental consultants on project planning and execution.
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
- Over 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant focus on the mining industry .
- Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
- Expertise in numerical modeling software for geotechnical analysis (e.g., PLAXIS, Geo Studio).
- Strong understanding of mine geology, tailings management, and rock mechanics.
- Excellent report writing, communication, and project management skills.
