About the Role
Our client requires a skilled Geotechnical Engineer with a focus on mining applications to bolster their team in Welkom . This role is essential for assessing ground stability, designing safe excavation methods, and mitigating geological risks associated with mining operations. You will be responsible for analyzing soil and rock mechanics, providing crucial geotechnical insights, and contributing to the safety and efficiency of underground and surface mining projects.

- Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and site characterizations for mining projects.
- Analyze soil and rock mass properties to assess stability of excavations, slopes, and underground structures.
- Develop and recommend appropriate ground support systems and stabilization techniques.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, including risk assessments and design recommendations.
- Collaborate with mine planning engineers and geologists to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine design.
- Monitor ground conditions during excavation and advise on necessary adjustments to ensure safety and stability.
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering , with a significant portion in the mining sector.
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC, PLAXIS).
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological principles.
- Experience with field investigations, laboratory testing, and interpretation of results.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
