Energy Storage Systems Integration Specialist

Our client, a forward-thinking energy technology company, is seeking an expert Energy Storage Systems Integration Specialist to join their team in Paarl, Western Cape . This role is fundamental to the successful deployment and operation of advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) integrated with renewable energy projects and the grid. You will be responsible for the technical design, system integration, commissioning, and ongoing performance optimization of BESS solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of battery chemistries, power electronics, control systems, and grid interconnection standards. A strong understanding of the renewable energy market and project life cycles is essential. The position requires on-site work in Paarl, Western Cape , involving close collaboration with engineering and site teams.

• Lead the technical design and system integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for utility-scale and distributed applications.
• Specify components, including batteries, inverters, transformers, switch gear, and control systems.
• Develop and implement control strategies for BESS to optimize performance, grid services, and energy arbitrage.
• Oversee the commissioning, testing, and performance verification of integrated BESS projects.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and software developers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with relevant grid codes, safety standards (e.g., IEC, UL), and project specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning and operation of BESS.
• Analyze performance data and identify opportunities for system optimization and efficiency improvements.
• Stay current with advancements in energy storage technologies, market trends, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop technical documentation, including design documents, test plans, and operational manuals.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, integration, and commissioning of energy storage systems, preferably BESS.
• Strong understanding of battery technologies (e.g., Li-ion), power electronics (inverters, converters), and control systems.
• Proficiency with grid interconnection standards and requirements.
• Experience with simulation software and system modeling tools.
• Familiarity with project management methodologies and fast-paced project execution.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience with SCADA systems and data acquisition relevant to energy systems.
• Knowledge of safety protocols for high-voltage electrical systems is essential.
