Mechanical Engineer - Process Design

Our client, a major player in the chemical processing industry, is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer specializing in Process Design to join their operations in Vereeniging, Gauteng
. This critical role involves designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting mechanical aspects of chemical processing plants and equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of our production processes through meticulous mechanical design and engineering solutions. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in process engineering, a deep understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science, as well as practical experience with process equipment.

You will work closely with chemical engineers, plant operators, and maintenance teams to implement and improve process designs. • Design and modify mechanical systems and equipment for chemical processing, including reactors, pumps, piping, and heat exchangers.
• Perform process simulations and engineering calculations to optimize system performance and efficiency.
• Ensure mechanical designs comply with industry safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
• Collaborate with process engineers to develop P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and equipment specifications.
• Select appropriate materials of construction based on process requirements and chemical compatibility.
• Troubleshoot mechanical failures and process inefficiencies, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of new equipment and process modifications.
• Contribute to HAZOP studies and other risk assessment processes.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
• 4-8 years of experience in mechanical or process engineering within the chemical, petrochemical, or related industries.
• Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and materials science.
• Experience with process equipment design and selection.
• Proficiency in CAD software and process simulation tools is advantageous.
• Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
