Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Design

Our client, a reputable engineering consultancy firm, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with expertise in HVAC design to join their team in

This role is integral to designing and implementing efficient and effective heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a variety of commercial and industrial projects. You will be responsible for system calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping design, and ensuring compliance with relevant building codes and standards. • Design HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings, including load calculations and system sizing.
• Select appropriate HVAC equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling units, and diffusers.
• Develop detailed drawings for ductwork, piping, and equipment layouts using CAD software.
• Prepare specifications for HVAC systems and components.
• Ensure designs comply with local building codes, energy efficiency standards (e.g., SANS), and ASHRAE guidelines.
• Collaborate with architects and other engineering disciplines to integrate HVAC systems into overall building design.
• Conduct site visits for project assessments, inspections, and troubleshooting.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during the construction phase.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience in HVAC system design.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, HAP).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles as applied to HVAC.
• Knowledge of building codes and relevant industry standards.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
