Senior Electrical Engineer - Building Services Design

What Jobs Direct is looking for a highly experienced Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Building Services Design, to join a prestigious engineering consultancy in Paarl, Western Cape. This role involves leading the electrical design for a diverse range of building projects, including commercial, residential, and institutional developments. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive electrical system designs, from initial concept through to project completion, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of electrical distribution, lighting design, emergency systems, and fire alarm systems, along with strong project management and client liaison skills. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians, providing mentorship and technical oversight.

• Lead the electrical design for building services projects, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, and fire alarm systems.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, specifications, and calculations using industry-standard software.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS 10142), and client requirements.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively for electrical scopes of work.
• Liaise with clients, architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to coordinate designs and resolve issues.
• Conduct site inspections during construction to ensure adherence to design specifications.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and contractor proposals.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior electrical engineers and designers.
• Stay updated on new technologies and best practices in building electrical systems.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical building services design.
• Proven experience leading electrical design on medium to large-scale building projects.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP, DIALux) is essential.
• Strong understanding of South African electrical regulations, national building regulations, and relevant SANS standards.
• Experience with load calculations, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and lighting design.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and client management skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration is highly preferred.
