Mine Electrical Engineer - Automation & Control

Our client, a prominent mining operation, is seeking a skilled Mine Electrical Engineer with a specialization in Automation and Control systems to join their team in Benoni, Gauteng . This role is crucial for the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical systems that underpin the automation of mining equipment and processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of PLCs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, and power distribution within a mining environment.

You will play a key role in enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and reliability through advanced electrical and automation solutions. This position offers exciting challenges in a technologically evolving mining landscape.

• Design, install, and commission electrical systems for mining automation and control applications.
• Develop and maintain PLC logic, SCADA HMI interfaces, and industrial communication networks.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and automation equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations, mining standards, and company policies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate automation solutions into mining processes.
• Manage electrical maintenance schedules and activities for critical plant equipment.
• Conduct risk assessments for electrical installations and propose mitigation measures.
• Contribute to the specification and procurement of electrical and automation components.
• Provide technical support and training to maintenance personnel and operators.
• Stay abreast of new technologies in industrial automation and electrical engineering relevant to mining.

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a strong focus on industrial automation and control systems.
• Proven experience with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and SCADA systems.
• Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Profibus, Ethernet/IP) and power distribution systems.
• Familiarity with mining electrical standards and safety regulations (e.g., SANS, Mine Health and Safety Act).
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience with Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) and motor control is advantageous.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng. or Techn. Eng.) is desirable.
• Ability to work effectively in a demanding mining environment.
