Senior Project Manager - Electrical Infrastructure Upgrades

Our client, a major utility provider, is seeking a seasoned Senior Project Manager to lead critical electrical infrastructure upgrade projects. This vital on-site role is based in Klerksdorp, North West . You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of projects involving the modernization and expansion of the electrical grid, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in electrical engineering, power systems, and project management within the utility sector.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage contractors, ensure compliance with stringent safety and regulatory standards, and oversee significant capital budgets. • Lead the planning, execution, and successful completion of complex electrical infrastructure projects.
• Develop detailed project plans, including scope, schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
• Oversee the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases of electrical infrastructure upgrades.
• Manage relationships with internal engineering teams, external contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure all projects adhere to strict safety, quality, and environmental regulations specific to the power utility industry.
• Manage project finances, including cost control, forecasting, and ensuring projects are delivered within budget.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues, implementing proactive solutions.
• Monitor project progress through site inspections and performance tracking, providing regular reports to senior management.
• Ensure effective communication and coordination among all project stakeholders.
• Lead and mentor project teams, fostering a high-performance and safety-conscious culture.

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of project management experience, with at least 5 years focused on electrical power systems, transmission, and distribution projects.
• Proven experience managing projects in the North West province or similar utility environments is essential.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, power system operations, grid infrastructure, and relevant South African standards.
• Professional Project Management certification (e.g., PMP) is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and electrical design software is a plus.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large capital budgets and complex contracts.
• Experience with utility regulatory frameworks and permitting processes.
