Senior Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Systems

Our client, a leader in large-scale industrial facilities management and development, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC systems for their operations in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga . This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of complex heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for industrial and commercial projects. You will ensure systems meet performance, energy efficiency, and regulatory standards, contributing significantly to the operational success and sustainability of our client's projects.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep technical understanding of HVAC principles, system design, energy modeling, and project management. • Lead the mechanical design of HVAC systems for industrial and commercial facilities, including load calculations, equipment selection, and distribution design.
• Develop detailed HVAC system layouts, schematics, and specifications using AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
• Conduct energy modeling and simulations to optimize system performance and reduce operational costs.
• Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS, ASHRAE), and environmental regulations.
• Oversee the installation, commissioning and testing of HVAC systems to verify performance against design intent.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex HVAC system issues during project execution and operation.
• Collaborate with architects, electrical engineers, and project managers to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and project documentation.
• Mentor junior mechanical engineers and provide technical guidance on HVAC design best practices.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in HVAC technology, energy efficiency, and sustainable design practices.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in HVAC system design and engineering.
• Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP) and HVAC design/analysis tools.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles as applied to HVAC.
• Experience with energy modeling software (e.g., eQUEST, Energy Plus) is highly desirable.
• Understanding of building codes and industry standards relevant to HVAC systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong project management and communication skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is a significant advantage.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Nelspruit, Mpumalanga .
