Senior Industrial Engineer - Ergonomics & Human Factors

Our client, a leading company in the chemical processing industry located in Nelspruit , is seeking an experienced Senior Industrial Engineer specializing in Ergonomics and Human Factors. This role is crucial for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of employees while optimizing workstation design and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for analyzing work tasks, identifying ergonomic risks, and developing practical solutions to mitigate them.

This involves evaluating existing workstations, designing new ones, and implementing best practices in human-centered design within the manufacturing and operational environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in industrial engineering principles, coupled with specialized knowledge of ergonomics, biomechanics, and human-computer interaction. You will collaborate closely with safety officers, production teams, and management to integrate ergonomic considerations into all aspects of operations.

• Conduct comprehensive ergonomic assessments of workstations, tools, and tasks across all operational areas.
• Identify potential ergonomic hazards and risks, such as awkward postures, repetitive motions, and forceful exertions.
• Design and recommend improvements to workstations, equipment, and processes to reduce ergonomic risks and enhance user comfort.
• Develop and implement ergonomic programs and training initiatives for employees and management.
• Utilize ergonomic assessment tools and software to quantify risks and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
• Collaborate with the Health and Safety team to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
• Analyze workflow and task designs to optimize human performance and reduce physical strain.
• Participate in the design of new facilities and equipment, ensuring ergonomic principles are incorporated from the outset.
• Investigate workplace injuries and incidents related to ergonomics and recommend corrective actions.
• Stay updated on the latest research, tools, and best practices in ergonomics and human factors engineering.

• Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial engineering, with a significant focus on ergonomics and human factors.
• Proven experience conducting ergonomic risk assessments and implementing effective solutions.
• In-depth knowledge of anthropometry, biomechanics, and human-computer interaction principles.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations related to occupational health and safety.
• Proficiency in ergonomic assessment tools and software.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and observational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience in the chemical processing or manufacturing industry is advantageous.
• Certification in Ergonomics (e.g., CIEHF, BOC) is a strong plus.
