Mechanical Design Engineer - Turbine Systems

About the Role Our client, a key player in the design and development of innovative energy generation technologies, is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in turbine systems. This role, based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga , is essential for the conceptualization, design, and optimization of mechanical components and systems for a variety of energy applications, including potentially wind and hydro power generation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for translating project requirements into robust mechanical designs, utilizing advanced CAD software and adhering to stringent engineering standards. • Design, develop, and detail mechanical components and systems for turbine applications using 3D CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Inventor, CATIA).
• Perform mechanical analysis, including stress, strain, vibration, and thermal analysis, using FEA tools.
• Conduct performance simulations and validate designs against performance requirements.
• Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure designs are producible and meet quality standards.
• Participate in design reviews, providing critical feedback and ensuring adherence to best practices.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and provide technical support during prototype development and testing.
• Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and manufacturing processes to enhance designs.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements for energy systems in South Africa.

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on rotating machinery, turbines, or similar complex mechanical systems.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Inventor) and FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
• Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials science, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
• Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Familiarity with energy generation technologies, particularly wind or hydro turbines, is a significant advantage.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work model from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
