Bridge Engineer

Our client, a premier engineering firm specializing in transportation infrastructure, is seeking an accomplished Bridge Engineer to join their team in Klerksdorp, North West . This vital role involves the design, analysis, and oversight of bridge construction projects, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and longevity. The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of bridge engineering principles and a proven ability to manage complex projects from conception through to completion.

This hybrid role offers a blend of site-based responsibilities and office-based design work, providing a balanced approach to project delivery within the Klerksdorp, North West region. You will contribute to projects that are critical for regional connectivity and economic development.

• Lead the structural design and analysis of various types of bridges, including concrete, steel, and composite structures.
• Develop detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications in compliance with relevant codes (e.g., AASHTO, SANS).
• Conduct bridge inspections, condition assessments, and provide recommendations for rehabilitation or strengthening.
• Oversee the construction phase of bridge projects, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including transportation planners, geotechnical engineers, and contractors.
• Perform advanced analysis using specialized bridge design software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge).
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for bridge engineering tasks.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and tender documents.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical development of the bridge engineering team.
• Ensure all designs and construction activities meet stringent safety and environmental regulations.

• Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural or Bridge Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.
• A minimum of 9 years of experience focused specifically on bridge design and construction.
• Extensive knowledge of bridge types, materials, and construction methodologies.
• Proficiency in bridge analysis and design software.
• Experience with load rating, seismic analysis, and fatigue analysis of bridges.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to manage client relationships.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to conduct site visits and inspections, often in challenging conditions around Klerksdorp, North West.
