Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Systems Specialist

Our client, a leading property development and management firm, is seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer with specialized expertise in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems. This role, based in Klerksdorp , is essential for ensuring the optimal performance, efficiency, and compliance of mechanical systems within their diverse portfolio of commercial and residential properties. You will be responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of HVAC systems, contributing to comfortable and energy-efficient building environments.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of HVAC principles and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions. This is a key position within our client's facilities management team in Klerksdorp .

• Design and specify HVAC systems for new construction projects and renovations, ensuring compliance with building codes and energy efficiency standards.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of HVAC equipment, working closely with contractors and project managers.
• Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance programs for all HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Conduct regular inspections and performance testing of HVAC equipment, identifying and rectifying any issues.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose complex HVAC system malfunctions, providing timely and effective repair solutions.
• Manage HVAC project budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness without compromising quality or performance.
• Maintain accurate records of HVAC system designs, maintenance activities, and repair history.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and building managers to integrate HVAC systems seamlessly into overall building designs.
• Stay updated on the latest HVAC technologies, best practices, and regulatory changes.
• Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance staff and building operations teams.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience specifically in the design, installation, and maintenance of HVAC systems.
• In-depth knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer as applied to HVAC applications.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit MEP) and load calculation tools.
• Understanding of various HVAC system types (e.g., VAV, VRF, chilled water systems) and their applications.
• Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems is a significant advantage.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to HVAC performance issues.
• Excellent project management and coordination skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or ECSA registration is preferred.
