Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer to join their operations in the Kimberley area. This vital role involves ensuring the stability and safety of underground mine excavations through the application of rock mechanics principles. You will conduct detailed stability analyses, design ground support systems, and provide expert advice to mine planning and production teams. This position is critical for managing geological risks and optimizing mining methods in challenging rock mass conditions within the Northern Cape region.

• Conduct detailed rock mass characterization and stability analyses for underground mine workings.
• Design and implement appropriate ground support systems tailored to specific geological conditions.
• Monitor ground conditions and instrumentation data, providing timely feedback and recommendations.
• Utilize numerical modeling software (e.g., FLAC, UDEC, Phase2) to simulate rock mass behavior.
• Provide expert technical advice on geotechnical risks and mitigation strategies to mine management.
• Contribute to the development of best practices in rock mechanics and ground control.

• Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Rock Mechanics, or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in rock mechanics engineering, with a focus on underground mining.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for modeling and analysis.
• Strong understanding of geological structures, material properties, and failure mechanisms.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to conduct field assessments and collaborate effectively with site teams.
