Job Description
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and professional Political Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative, research, logistical, and stakeholder support within a fast-paced political environment. This exciting opportunity is ideally suited to an individual with strong political awareness, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while engaging confidently with stakeholders from all walks of life. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting political representatives through effective administration, research, policy support, and public engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Provide professional administrative, secretarial, and office support to political representatives.
- Coordinate schedules, meetings, travel arrangements, and stakeholder engagements.
- Conduct research on legislative, policy, governance, and political matters to support informed decision-making.
- Draft correspondence, reports, briefing documents, presentations, and meeting minutes.
- Assist with the preparation of speeches, articles, policy submissions, and public communication materials.
- Liaise with members of the public, community stakeholders, government officials, and various organizations in a professional and courteous manner.
- Monitor current affairs, legislative developments, and political trends, providing relevant insights and analysis.
- Support the management of constituency matters and ensure effective follow-up on public enquiries.
- Assist with parliamentary, legislature, committee, and governance-related administrative processes.
- Maintain accurate records, databases, and documentation while ensuring confidentiality and professionalism always.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, Communications, Governance, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a political, governmental, legislative, public affairs, policy, research, or administrative support role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong command of professional business writing.
- Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to prepare reports, presentations, spreadsheets, and formal correspondence.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and understand legislation, parliamentary processes, governance frameworks, committee structures, and legislative procedures.
- Sound understanding of South Africa's political environment, current affairs, and legislative landscape.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to evaluate political and policy developments.
- Ability to assist with the drafting of speeches, policy documents, articles, media statements, and stakeholder communications.
- Proficiency in more than one language will be advantageous.
- Ability to work flexible and irregular hours when required, often under pressure and within demanding deadlines.
- Understanding of party-political structures, policies, and governance processes will be advantageous.
