Job Description:

The Ventilation Officer is responsible for the maintenance of ventilation and occupational hygiene systems and to provide the immediate supervisor with information to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Sets daily-, weekly- and monthly ventilation and occupational hygiene routine schedules.

Determines the need for, and assists in the development of ventilation and occupational hygiene procedures and standards.

Advises on changes to plans and schedules to minimise the effect of unexpected or unsafe work practices.

Stops the operation if the working conditions are unsafe/unhealthy.

Identifies employees suitable for further training.

Decides on disciplinary action to agreed parameters and procedures.

Interpret and act on ventilation and occupational hygiene-related legislation.

This role is in the MRM department at a C5 level reporting to the Section Ventilation Officer.

Qualifications:

Chamber of Mines Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control

Preferred additional:
Certificate in Environmental Health Certificate in Occupational Hygiene Certificate in Occupational Hygiene Risk Assessment Certificate in Occupational Hygiene Legislation

Knowledge, Skills experience required:

Experience of at least 2 years in the Mining and / or Refining environment

Practical experience of at least 2 years in the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene Field.
