Duties & Responsibilities
Implement and maintain Health, Safety, Environmental, and Food Safety policies and procedures. Conduct regular inspections focusing on hygiene, food-handling processes, equipment safety, and temperature-control compliance. Lead risk assessments related to food production, allergen control, chemical usage, and safe food-handling practices. Investigate safety and food-related incidents (contamination risks, injuries, near-misses) and develop corrective actions. Monitor compliance with HACCP, ISO 22000, and other applicable food-industry standards.
Ensure correct PPE usage, chemical safety, and cleaning procedures in kitchens/food areas. Conduct training on food safety, personal hygiene, emergency procedures, and safe work behaviour. Maintain accurate records: inspections, audits, PPE registers, incident logs, temperature checklists, and MSDS files. Support internal and external audits (OHS, hygiene, food safety, client audits). Promote continuous improvement and safe practices within all food service operations.
and Competencies
Strong knowledge of OHS Act and food safety regulations. Understanding of HACCP principles and hygiene standards. Incident investigation and root-cause analysis skills. Ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments. Strong communication and training skills. High attention to detail and compliance mindset.
Qualifications- National Senior Certificate
- A recognised Health & Safety qualification (SAMTRAC or HSE qualification).
- Addional food safety Certification (HACCP, ISO 22 000, Food Safety Management) is highly advantageous.
- Minimum 3 - 5 years working experience as a Health and Officer in:
Catering / Food services - Valid drivers licence
