At Faircape Health Institute and Faircape Life, we are committed to delivering high-quality healthcare services within our luxury retirement villages and healthcare environments. Our focus is on promoting quality of life, continuity of care, and clinical excellence through well-supported multidisciplinary teams and holistic resident care.

We are seeking a compassionate, clinically confident, and service-driven Medical Officer - Geriatric & Primary Care Services to join our team, working across Heritage Manor and Bridgewater Manor in Somerset West. The role will provide medical care to long-term healthcare patients as well as residents living independently within our retirement villages.

This position is ideal for a doctor who enjoys building long-term relationships with patients, residents and their families, providing continuity of care and managing a broad range of healthcare needs associated with ageing.

The successful candidate will work closely with nursing staff, allied healthcare professionals, care teams and village management across Heritage Manor and Bridgewater Manor to ensure our long-term patients and village residents receive proactive, holistic and high-quality medical care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide preventative healthcare and wellness-focused interventions
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and clinical discussions for long-term healthcare patients
  • Ensure accurate clinical coding and billing practices are applied for all services rendered
  • Maintain accurate, compliant, and up-to-date clinical documentation
  • Collaborate closely with nursing teams, allied healthcare professionals, care teams and village management
  • Support continuity of care and ensure appropriate referrals where required
  • Assist with family communication and care planning discussions when necessary
  • Ensure ethical, patient-centred and evidence-based clinical practice
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Short courses in Geriatric Medicine or Elderly Care - advantageous
  • Palliative Care training or certification - advantageous
Experience and Requirements
  • Proven experience post-community service
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
  • Previous experience in primary healthcare, family medicine, geriatrics, rehabilitation or long-term care advantageous
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare environments advantageous
  • Exposure to retirement village, frail care, long-term healthcare or elderly patient care would be beneficial
Skills and Attributes
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Comfortable working independently within a structured healthcare environment
