Position: Public Health Inspector (Sanitation)
Location: Mbombela

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Public Health Inspector specializing in sanitation to join their team in Nelspruit . This vital role involves ensuring community health and safety through the enforcement of sanitation laws and regulations across various public and private facilities. You will conduct inspections, investigate complaints, provide education on hygiene practices, and work to prevent the spread of disease.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about public health principles, possesses strong investigative and communication skills, and is committed to improving the well-being of the community by maintaining high sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of food establishments, public spaces, and other facilities to ensure compliance with sanitation regulations .
  • Investigate public health nuisances and complaints related to sanitation, such as improper waste disposal or pest infestations.
  • Educate the public and business owners on hygiene practices, food safety, and disease prevention.
  • Enforce public health laws and codes, issuing notices and taking appropriate action when violations are found.
  • Collect samples for laboratory analysis as needed to assess environmental conditions.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records of enforcement activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sanitation principles, infectious disease control, and relevant legislation.
  • Strong observational, analytical, and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for public engagement and enforcement.
  • Experience working within the Nelspruit or surrounding municipal health departments is an advantage.
