ABOUT THIS ROLE
Are you a high-calibre HR executive with extensive experience in manufacturing, industrial relations, and union environments?
A leading organisation is looking for an HR Director to join their leadership team and take strategic responsibility for the HR function across a complex manufacturing environment.
This is a senior executive opportunity for an experienced HR leader who has a proven track record of managing high-level union relationships, industrial relations, strikes, labour risk, and large HR teams, while driving people strategy in alignment with business objectives.
WHAT YOU WILL DO- Provide strategic HR leadership as a member of the subsidiary leadership team
- Provide senior-level leadership across industrial relations, labour relations, and union engagement
- Manage complex labour matters, including disciplinary processes, grievances, restructuring, collective bargaining, strikes, and other industrial relations challenges
- Build and maintain strong relationships with trade unions and key employee representatives
- Develop and strengthen internal industrial relations capability and labour risk management
- Drive Employment Equity and BBBEE initiatives in line with legislative and business requirements
- Lead talent management, succession planning, employee retention, engagement, and organisational development strategies
- Drive a positive organisational culture and develop leadership capability across the business
- Oversee HR service delivery, team performance, capability, and operational effectiveness
- Ensure strong HR governance, reporting, compliance, and risk management
- Oversee employee wellness initiatives and related services
- Partner with senior stakeholders and influence business decisions within a matrix environment
- Postgraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 10+ years’ senior-level HR experience within a manufacturing environment
- Current or recent experience at HR Director / HR Executive level
- Extensive and proven industrial relations and trade union experience at senior level
- Strong experience managing strikes, collective bargaining, labour disputes, and complex employee relations matters
- Proven people management experience, ideally leading large HR teams across multiple functions or sites
- Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation, Employment Equity, and BBBEE
- High-level strategic HR and business partnering experience
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Resilient and able to operate effectively under pressure in a demanding manufacturing environment
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders within a matrix structure
- High calibre, commercially minded HR leader with strong executive presence
- Stable career history with a consistent record of progression and achievement
- Exposure to shared-service HR delivery will be advantageous
