Paracon is actively seeking an experienced, high-caliber, and visionary Azure IaaS Cloud Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our enterprise cloud infrastructure and transformation team on a 12-month contract basis in Rosebank / Hybrid. In this critical senior cloud architecture role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership, architectural guidance, and operational excellence across complex enterprise-scale Microsoft Azure environments. You will leverage your deep expertise in Azure IaaS, landing zones, hybrid cloud networking, and security governance to drive cloud adoption and modernization initiatives.

Job Description:
As an Azure IaaS Cloud SME supporting enterprise cloud transformation initiatives via Paracon, you will take full technical, architectural, and operational ownership of complex Azure infrastructure environments. Your day-to-day responsibilities include designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-scale Azure Landing Zones, developing secure hybrid cloud connectivity (VNet Peering, Express Route, VPN, and Private Endpoints), and defining cloud governance and security controls. You will diagnose and resolve complex Azure infrastructure, networking, storage, and security incidents, lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and establish best practices around reliability, scalability, performance, automation, and cost optimization.
Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with clients, enterprise architects, project managers, and application teams to deliver resilient disaster recovery and cloud migration solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, architectural guidance, and operational excellence across complex enterprise-scale Azure IaaS environments.
- Design, implement, support, and govern enterprise-scale Azure Landing Zones and resource hierarchies.
- Develop secure hybrid cloud connectivity architectures utilizing VNet Peering, Azure Express Route, VPN Gateways, and Private Endpoints.
- Define and implement robust cloud governance frameworks, security controls, operational standards, and automated quality gates.
- Support cloud migration, workload modernization, performance optimization, and enterprise cloud adoption initiatives.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex Azure infrastructure, networking, storage, and security incidents.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA), problem management, change management, and continuous service improvement (CSI).
- Establish best practices around reliability, scalability, performance, infrastructure automation, and cost optimization (Fin Ops).
- Collaborate closely with clients, enterprise architects, project managers, and application squads to deliver end-to-end cloud solutions.
- Support backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and operational resilience initiatives across multi-region Azure deployments.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 8 to 12+ years of professional IT infrastructure and cloud engineering experience with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure.
- Proven, hands‑on professional experience as an Azure Cloud SME, Azure Infrastructure Architect, or Senior Cloud Specialist.
- Deep expertise across Azure IaaS, Azure Security & Governance, advanced cloud networking, monitoring, and observability.
- Strong practical knowledge of hybrid cloud connectivity, Express Route, VPN, and enterprise landing zone design.
- Comprehensive understanding of Windows Infrastructure, Active Directory, Azure AD / Entra , and cloud transformation frameworks.
- Exceptional troubleshooting, problem-solving, analytical, and executive stakeholder management capabilities.
- Mandatory legal eligibility to work in South Africa with local availability for Rosebank / Hybrid work arrangements.
Skills:
- Advanced professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Dev Ops Engineer Expert, Azure Security Engineer Associate).
- Prior professional experience working within tier-1 financial services, telecommunications, or enterprise consulting firms in South Africa.
- Hands‑on experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
