Procurement Assistant Job Purpose An exciting opportunity exists for a detail-oriented and organised Procurement Assistant to join a dynamic procurement team. The successful candidate will provide administrative and operational support across the procurement function, ensuring the timely sourcing and purchasing of goods and services while maintaining strong supplier relationships and ensuring compliance with procurement policies and procedures.
This role is ideal for someone with procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities Procurement & Supplier Management
- Assist with the sourcing and procurement of goods, materials, and services.
- Obtain quotations, assess supplier pricing, and support supplier selection.
- Prepare and process purchase orders in accordance with company procedures.
- Build and maintain effective supplier relationships.
- Resolve supplier queries relating to pricing, deliveries, quality, and invoicing.
- Conduct supplier reviews to ensure competitive pricing and service delivery.
- Monitor supplier compliance, including maintaining valid B-BBEE documentation.
- Process Goods Received Notes (GRNs) accurately.
- Assist with stock movements, returns, and inventory control.
- Support warehouse operations by issuing and receiving stock.
- Monitor stock availability and assist in preventing supply shortages.
- Coordinate stock requirements for special events and operational needs.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation.
- Assist with new item and asset creation on procurement systems.
- Monitor market trends and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist with procurement reporting and supplier performance tracking.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and procedures.
- Liaise with internal departments to understand purchasing requirements.
- Communicate potential supply chain risks or delays proactively.
- Provide general administrative support to the procurement team.
- Assist with ad hoc procurement and operational projects as required.
- Diploma or Degree in Business, Procurement, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 1–3 years' experience in procurement, purchasing, logistics, or commercial administration.
- Knowledge of procurement and sourcing principles.
- Experience with stock control and inventory management.
- Understanding of B-BBEE procurement requirements.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and administrative abilities
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong planning and time management skills
- Good negotiation and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to build strong supplier relationships
- Analytical mindset with commercial awareness
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- High level of integrity and professionalism
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel as required.
- Fast-paced procurement environment supporting operational and business requirements.
