Stefanutti Stocks Coastal is looking to fill the Buyer position to assist with procurement requirements by meeting the necessary time frames and negotiating the most cost-effective price, whilst maintaining compliance to the policies, procedures and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with project, site, estimating, commercial, quality, finance and operational teams to understand procurement requirements, allowable values, specifications, delivery priorities and project risks before sourcing goods, materials, plant, subcontractors or services.
- Develop and execute project-specific procurement plans that support programme milestones, budget constraints, quality requirements, contract conditions and company procurement procedures.
- Support tender buying and pre-construction procurement by obtaining market-related pricing, validating supplier capability, identifying cost-effective alternatives and providing commercial input to improve bid competitiveness.
- Lead supplier sourcing, request-for-quotation processes, quote analysis, adjudication and commercial negotiation to secure best value in terms of price, specification compliance, availability, delivery, payment terms, B-BBEE status and total landed cost.
- Manage supplier, vendor and subcontractor relationships through regular performance engagement, issue resolution, delivery follow-up, quality feedback, documentation compliance and ongoing supplier development.
- Maintain market intelligence on construction materials, plant, subcontracted services, price movements, lead times, landed costs, supplier capacity and product alternatives to support informed procurement decisions.
- Analyze procurement data, supplier performance, delivery exposure and market conditions to anticipate procurement risks and recommend control strategies, contingency options or alternative supply routes to management.
- Develop, maintain and validate the approved supplier, service provider and subcontractor database, ensuring due diligence, onboarding, credit application, statutory, quality, safety and compliance documentation is complete and current.
- Provide accurate procurement reporting, including savings, allowable values versus actuals, committed spend, supplier performance, delivery status, B-BBEE participation, risk items and other project-specific procurement metrics.
- Ensure procurement activity complies with company policies, ethical buying standards, contract requirements, project specifications, B-BBEE or CPG obligations, ESG requirements where applicable and relevant regulatory controls.
- Ensure purchase requisitions, purchase orders and supporting documentation are accurate, complete and aligned to approved specifications, allowable values, commercial terms and system requirements before processing.
- Obtain and evaluate competitive quotations from approved or suitably qualified suppliers, considering specification compliance, availability, price, delivery, B-BBEE level, payment terms, risk and value-for-money.
- Prepare, process and follow up purchase orders through Build Smart or the applicable procurement system, ensuring delivery dates, quantities, approvals and supplier commitments are actively monitored.
- Coordinate expediting, delivery follow-up and issue resolution with suppliers, logistics providers, site teams and finance to reduce project delays, invoice discrepancies, returns and quality-related rework.
- Identify and recommend alternative suppliers, materials, products or methods in consultation with Quality, technical and project stakeholders to improve cost, availability, compliance, programme performance or risk mitigation.
- CIPS qualification or equivalent procurement qualification essential.
