Purpose of the Role
The Maintenance Assistant will support the maintenance department in ensuring that all buildings, facilities, equipment, and surrounding areas are maintained to a high standard. The successful candidate will assist with repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, and general upkeep of the property.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance
- Perform daily maintenance and repair tasks around the property
- Assist with plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and mechanical repairs
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment
- Ensure all maintenance issues are addressed promptly
- Assist in implementing preventative maintenance schedules
- Monitor equipment and report faults or breakdowns
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance of maintenance areas
- Assist with upkeep of staff accommodation, guest areas, and public spaces
- Support gardening and outdoor maintenance when required
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times
- Ensure maintenance work is completed safely and efficiently
- Report hazards, damages, or safety concerns immediately
- Complete maintenance checklists and job cards
- Assist with stock control of maintenance supplies and tools
- Support the maintenance team with ad hoc duties as required
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 2–3 years’ maintenance experience in hospitality, lodge, hotel, or property environment
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair minor maintenance issues
- Valid driver’s license advantageous
- Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, and standby when required
- Attention to detail

- Maintenance planning and preventative maintenance understanding
