Our client is seeking a proactive and hands-on Facilities Assistant to support the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep, and smooth operation of their facility. The successful candidate will assist in ensuring a safe, efficient, and well-maintained working environment through preventative maintenance, repairs, contractor coordination, and general facilities support.
This role is suited to a practical, dependable, and detail-oriented individual with strong organisational skills and a positive, solution-focused approach.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and general facilities infrastructure
- Carry out preventative maintenance tasks and general repairs
- Ensure equipment and systems are operating efficiently and safely
- Monitor, coordinate, and inspect work completed by external contractors
- Assist with sourcing and liaising with contractors where required
- Test and maintain security and safety systems within the facility
- Report maintenance issues, completed tasks, and ongoing work requirements
- Assist with maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations and standards
- Support risk assessments and the implementation of safety procedures and emergency protocols
- Promote a safe and compliant working environment
- Assist in maintaining building infrastructure and ensuring facilities meet operational requirements
- Set up workstations and work spaces, including furniture and equipment arrangements
- Assist with office moves and meeting room setups
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of common areas and outdoor spaces
- Support grounds maintenance and general building upkeep
- Perform painting, tiling, carpentry, plumbing, and general repair tasks as required
- Carry out additional duties related to facilities operations when needed
- Higher Certificate in Plumbing and/or Electrical
- Previous experience in a facilities, maintenance, estates, or building support role
- Experience with domestic electrical installations, basic plumbing, painting, tiling, and general building repairs
- Exposure to health and safety regulations and compliance requirements
- Gardening and grounds maintenance experience advantageous
- Proven maintenance experience and ability to work with hand and power tools
- Carpentry experience or training advantageous
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness to work weekends and after hours when operationally required
- Occupational Health & Safety training advantageous
- First Aid and Fire Awareness certification advantageous
- Own reliable transport preferred
- Reside within reasonable travelling distance of Somerset West preferred.
