HIRING | Maintenance Manager — Packaging Manufacturer Based:
Johannesburg West, Gauteng Salary: R30 000 – R50 000 per month Permanent position
Senior role for a qualified artisan who has moved into management. You'll own plant maintenance and machine uptime outright.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Take full responsibility for the maintenance function across the plant
- Develop, implement and manage the preventative maintenance schedule
- Minimise machine downtime and drive improvement in equipment reliability
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical and pneumatic breakdowns
- Manage, schedule and develop the maintenance team of artisans and assistants
- Manage the spares inventory, critical spares holding and stock levels
- Source and manage external contractors and service providers
- Control the maintenance budget and approve maintenance-related expenditure
- Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all statutory inspection requirements
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards and equipment history
- Support the Production Manager on machine changeovers, installations and improvement projects
- Trade Test qualification (Millwright, Fitter & Turner, or Electrician)
- N4 – N6 or equivalent qualification advantageous
- Minimum 10 years' maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment
- Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or management capacity
- Proven experience on production machinery — packaging, converting or printing equipment strongly preferred
- Sound working knowledge of the OHS Act
- Computer literate — MS Office and maintenance management systems
- Available to work every Saturday until 15:00
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability
- Firm, capable people manager able to hold a team accountable
- Plans ahead rather than firefighting
- Cost-conscious and commercially aware
- Calm and decisive under breakdown pressure
- Strong administrative discipline and record keeping
