45) – Temporary – Gauteng, Nigel

Position:
Temporary assembly welder in Alstom Ubunye, located in Nigel, Gauteng. The role supports railway applications by welding sub‑assemblies and frame structures.

• Welding components, sub‑assemblies, frames and necessary welds of the structure following WPS standards, instructions and respecting quality, cost and delay defined in the manufacturing process.
• Positioning, tack welding and welding brackets on sub‑assemblies and frames.
• Using work‑orders from the workshop network to track activity and input activity data.
• Selecting the appropriate welding equipment in relation to the instruction sheet.
• Adjusting parameters of the welding workstation (intensity, tension) according to the WPS of the instruction sheet.
• Welding components in accordance with the instruction sheet parameters and quality criteria.
• Adjusting components to ensure correct position and gaps between two components before welding (gap, root face, chamfer angle) as defined in WPS and instruction sheet.
• Finishing and cleaning welds before checking weld quality.
• Checking the conformity of welds according to specifications and standards.
• Repairing non‑conformity of welds (geometry, visual aspects) following repair specification.
• Guaranteeing the quality of own work by auto‑control.
• Actively participating in transversal actions in the continuous improvement process (APSYS, SWIP, 5S, Team 5mn meeting daily).

• Welding trade test.
• Experience working with assembly with or without jigs.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Ability to read welding symbols and engineering welding.
• NDT qualifications.
• Pan bending and guillotine cutting experience is advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills in English and technical/behavioural competencies.
• Conscientiousness, thoroughness, ability to concentrate.
• Ability to identify welding defects.
• Ability to understand instruction sheets.
