Assembler Welder (ALP
45) (Temporary)

Location:

Gauteng – Nigel, Alstom Ubunye

Welding of sub‑assemblies or frame structures for railway applications.

• Weld components, sub‑assemblies, and frames following WPS standards and manufacturing instructions, respecting quality, cost, and schedule constraints.
• Position, tack‑weld, and weld brackets on sub‑assemblies and frames.
• Use work‑order from the workshop network to track activity and enter activity data.
• Select appropriate welding equipment based on the instruction sheet.
• Adjust welding workstation parameters (intensity, tension) in accordance with the WPS.
• Ensure correct positioning and gaps (gap, root face, chamfer angle) between components before welding.
• Finish and clean welds prior to quality inspection.
• Confirm conformity of welds against specifications and standards.
• Repair non‑conforming welds (geometry, visual aspects) following repair specifications.
• Guarantee the quality of one's own work through self‑control.
• Actively participate in continuous improvement activities (APSYS, SWIP, 5S, daily 5‑minute meetings).

• Welding trade test.
• Experience with assembly, with or without jigs.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Ability to read welding symbols and engineering welding drawings.
• Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) qualifications.
• Experience with pan‑bending and guillotine cutting (advantageous).
• Excellent communication skills in English (technical and behavioral).
• Conscientiousness, thoroughness, focus.
• Ability to identify welding defects.
• Ability to understand instruction sheets.
